Toy Story 5 Teaser Sets Woody and Buzz Against a Digital Device

Exactly 30 years after the original Toy Story movie debuted, launching the animation giant as a major animation studio and bringing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and Buzz Lightyear (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

In 2026, the next chapter is scheduled for release. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, providing a glimpse into the storyline but leaving viewers wondering how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys

The preview reveals the young girl — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a latest toy, one that terrifies the familiar toy group. Bonnie gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Theoretically, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger intending to supplant them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Unanswered Questions from Toy Story 4

An element the teaser doesn't touch on is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 depicted him embark on a new adventure with Bo Peep (Annie Potts), journeying with a carnival and helping prize toys find good homes.

Certainly, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, however. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And where is the stuntman toy (the star)?

Continuity from the Previous Film

At the very least, some elements are carrying over from the earlier movie. The last thing the cowboy did before departing for his new life was hand over his symbol of authority to Jessie (the voice actor), leaving her as the leader of Bonnie's bedroom. The clip displays the badge attached to her shirt.

It is hoped she is still the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on the scheduled date.
